Crews in East Bridgewater are repairing a water main break near the intersection of Bedford St. (Route 18) and West St. (Route 106).

DPW Director John B. Haines says that at around 2 p.m. Friday they received a report of a water main break near where Bedford St. meets West St.

Haines says that both roads are open, but the southbound side of Route 18 is down to one lane.

At this time it is not clear when the break will be fully repaired and drivers are asked to avoid the area, if possible, and expect delays.

Police officers will be on hand to help direct motorists.

The water main has been shut down and residents in the area of Bedford Street, from West Street to Scribner Way, should expect disruptions to their water service while the repairs are being made.

Residents that may be impacted are being advised to use the water they currently have sparingly until service is restored.

“We are working on getting the main repaired as quickly as possible and we thank residents in advance for their patience,” Haines said. “There was no construction going on in the area, so we believe this was just an old main that broke. Some of the underground pipes in the area are over 100 years old.”
