East Bridgewater Police are seeking the public’s help so they can identify a woman who brought a sick dog to a town groomer last week and never came back for the dog.

Police say the woman dropped her older English brown and white bulldog off at the Secret Garden Pet Resort, at 1040 Central St., on Thursday so it could be groomed.

The woman never returned for the dog and the groomer contacted Animal Control Officer Lisa McKay and MSCPA investigators were notified.

When the dog arrived it was covered in pressure sores and suffering from skin, eye and ear infections.

He will remain at Secret Garden as part of a mandatory seven-day stray hold and will then be transferred to Long Island Bulldog Rescue.

A veterinarian who examined him said the dog’s ear infections are so severe that surgery was recommended to alleviate the pain he is experiencing.

At this time it is unclear where and when the operation will be performed.

The woman is described as having an eye patch covering her right eye, she was wearing a gray t-shirt with blue jeans, and has long red hair that was pulled back in a ponytail.

She is believed to be in her mid-40s and about five-feet-six-inches tall.

The woman wrote her name as Melanie Wichester on the groomer’s intake form.

However, that name didn’t appear when it was run through a police database.

She allegedly told the groomer the dog’s name is William Katz.

Anyone with information on her identity is urged to call the MSPCA’s Law Enforcement line at 1-800-628-5808 or East Bridgewater Police at 508-378-7223.

Anyone interested in adopting the dog can do so by visiting here.
