Norwell’s newest police officer realized a goal when she was sworn in yesterday.

Officer Sarah Harding was born and raised in Norwell, and always wanted to work for the Police Department.

“I’m very excited,” said Harding. “It’s always been my goal to return to my hometown, and I’m just thankful that I have the opportunity to do that.”

A 2010 graduate from Norwell High School, Harding is transferring from the Provincetown Police Department – where she was a full time police officer since 2015.

Police Chief Ted Ross says she’s one of two new officers that will be hired.

“We went to the civil service list where she was currently on. She went through the process and really excelled throughout the interview process,” said Ross. “We’re getting a really well-trained officer and we’re really grateful that she came over.”

Harding’s mother, Denise, said she’s glad her daughter will be working closer to home.

“It’s nice to see things come full circle. She’s put a lot of effort and work into it, always very dedicated,” said Denise Harding. “We’re incredibly happy that it’s come to reality for her.”
