Middleborough: Fire Closes Section Of Route 18

Bedford St. (Route 18) in Middleborough has reopened as crews continue to battle a debris fire.

Fire Chief Lance Benjamino and Police Chief Joseph Perkins say that they were notified of a fire at Hank Zion’s Auto Salvage around 9:30 a.m.

Upon arrival crews found a large pile of scrap metal and tires that was on fire with a debris pile that is about 100 yards long.

Officials called for a second alarm and Bridgewater and Lakeville responded to assist.

At this time no injuries have been reported.

Middleborough Police closed down a portion of Bedford St. due to the thick, heavy smoke but reopened the roadway roughly a half hour ago.
