Bourne Police are warning residents to be aware of scammers posing as the Sheriff’s Department.

Lt. Brandon Esip tells WATD News that the scammers will often use the names of actual deputies to make them appear more legitimate.

Esip says this isn’t the way legitimate law enforcement agencies operate.

Esip says this scam has been seen across the country and is similar to calls from individuals claiming to be IRS agents.
