Bridgewater: Pedestrian Struck In Post Office Parking Lot

A Mansfield man was hospitalized after being hit by a car in Bridgewater this morning.

Bridgewater Police say that at around 11 a.m. emergency crews were called to the Bridgewater Post Office at 169 Broad St. over reports of a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle.

Officers found the victim, 53-year-old Gary Moore, and he was treated on scene by Fire Department paramedics then transported to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

An investigation has determined that Moore was walking through the rear parking lot when the driver of a vehicle, identified as 84-year-old Dexter McDonald of Bridgewater, accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake pedal.

McDonald allegedly continued through the parking lot after allegedly striking Moore and hit several shrubs before his car stopped.

Bridgewater Police say the incident remains under investigation and, at this time, no citations or charges have been filed.

However, Police have requested that the Department of Motor Vehicles file McDonald’s license status as an immediate threat.
