Weymouth: Brockton Men Charged Following Break-In, Police Pursuit

Two Brockton men are facing charges following a pursuit throughout several South Shore communities.

Weymouth Police say that shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday they received a call from a resident at the Avalon Ledges apartments who said he received an alert from his security company that his alarm was activated.

He was not home at the time but said that he saw two people inside via the home security system.

Upon arrival officers discovered that the front entry door had been pried open and the apartment was ransacked.

At roughly the same time officers initiated a car stop for motor vehicle violations of a red colored Honda sedan that was leaving the apartment complex.

Police say the vehicle refused to stop and fled the scene while committing several additional motor vehicle violations.

The vehicle drove onto Route 3 South before exiting at Exit 15 in Rockland at which point officers saw several items, later discovered to be stolen credit and debit cards, being thrown from the passenger side window.

The Honda got back on Route 3 North where stop sticks were deployed and the vehicle was stopped near exit 16.

The suspects, 25-year-old Roodler Jean-Baptiste and 24-year-old Nelito Mapp-Monteiro, were taken into custody.

Police say a metal crow bar was recovered from inside Mapp-Monteiro’s waistband.

Officers also located a small metal safe inside that vehicle and after obtaining a warrant to search it found just under 50 grams of Fentanyl and approximately $10,000 in cash.

Both men were charged with Unarmed Burglary, Larceny from a Building, Malicious Destruction of Property, and Possession of Burglarious Tools.

Jean-Baptiste was also charged with failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating with a suspended license-subsequent offense, failure to stop for red light, no inspection sticker, and a headlight violation.

Both suspects were arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday and police say they will face additional charges as a result of the evidence located within the safe and that the investigation is ongoing.
