Bourne: Sidewalk Closures Begin On Bourne Bridge

Repair work is continuing on the Bourne Bridge as the next phase of the works begins on Wednesday.

The Army Corps of Engineers says this phase will focus on the walking surface.

As a result sidewalk access to cross the bridge will be closed for safety reasons.

Pedestrians and bicyclists are being advised to seek alternate routes or use alternate means of crossing such as public transportation, ride share, or vehicle for hire services.

The closure is expected to remain in effect for approximately 2 ½ weeks.

During this time travel lanes will again be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction and wide loads won’t be permitted to cross.

Officials say state and local police will be on duty to provide help to motorist while work is being done.
