A 19-year-old Rockland man is facing charges after a standoff with a SWAT team.

Police Chief John Llewellyn says Ivan Andujar was arrested and charged with armed robbery after an incident on Church Street Tuesday.

“A male was sitting in his car, a black male came up to the passenger door, opened the passenger door, got into the vehicle, sat down and brandished a silver semi-automatic hand gun,” said Llewellyn. “At that point he took from the victim $40, his wallet, cell phone, and a backpack that was in the back seat.”

Two police officers saw a man matching the suspect’s description enter a three-family home on 57 Church Street.

The MetroLEC SWAT team responded to the scene and evacuated the first and second floor of the home. A reverse 911 call went out to nearby homes telling them to shelter in place.

“There was a drone up. We could see them through one of the windows. The technology has allowed us to slow everything down — there were children in the house, and to make sure that nobody on either side of the equation were injured,” said Llewellyn. “That’s important to us.”

A SWAT team called out the suspects over a speakerphone. Andujar and a relative walked out of the building without further incident. The relative was not charged and was released.

Andujar will be arraigned in Hingham District Court Wednesday morning.

Police are investigating a similar robbery that took place on May 4, and have “reasonable suspicion” it could be connected.

“It’s the second occurrence in a matter of two weeks in the same area,” said Llewellyn. “Similar M.O., so we’re going to re-interview the victims from the first case.”
