A man arrested earlier this week in Marshfield gave a false name and is being sought by police.

Marshfield Police say they arrested three men following a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.

One of the men, who was found hiding under a blanket in the bed of the pickup truck identified himself as 41-year-old Michael Carpine and was able to provide information such as a date of birth and social security number and an expired RMV image of Michael Carpine and this suspect revealed similar physical characteristics.

The following day police were contacted by a close family member of Michael Carpine who told them that Michael died over a year ago.

The suspect’s fingerprints were run through the AFIS ( Automated Fingerprint Identification System) database and it was discovered his real name is Matthew E. Parsons, the brother of Adam Parsons one of the other suspects arrested during the traffic stop.

Police say Matthew Parsons has a long extensive history with the criminal justice system and already had an active warrant for his arrest out of Weymouth for B&E Building Night-time Felony, Destruction of Property and larceny from a Building.

On Thursday additional charges were brought against him including providing a False Name, Identity Fraud, Obstruction of Justice, Conspiracy, Possession of a Class B Drug and 3 counts of Possession of a Class E drug.

Parsons frequents the South Shore and is believed to be homeless.

He has been known to travel with the other suspects, brother Adam and 35-year-old Jonathan Zakas working odd handyman jobs from time to time.
