Brockton: City Council Picks Rodrigues As Interim Mayor (Audio Report)

The Brockton City Council have the elected Moises Rodrigues, who was Council President, to serve out the remaining six months of Mayor Bill Carpenter’s term.

The council could have made multiple nominations prior to voting, but decided to close the process once Rodrigues was named.

Ward 3 City Councilor Dennis Eaniri was one of many councilors to speak in favor of the lone candidate prior to a vote. During her moment of personal privilege,  Ward 4 City Councilor Susan Nicastro was able to get a commitment from Rodrigues, that he would not seek another term as mayor if the council elected him.

State Representative Michelle Dubois was one of many who attendance to witness history in the making.

In the meantime, the city council had to replace Rodrigues as council president, unanimously voting At Councilor Robert Sullivan to take over that role until the end of the legislative session.
