Brockton: Hundreds Attend Mayor Carpenter’s Wake, Prepare for Funeral Services (Audio Report)

Brockton will hold funeral services for Mayor Bill Carpenter on Friday, after hundreds of visitors trekked to city hall on Thursday to pay their respects to the fallen chief executive officer.

People waited in long lines outside Brockton City Hall to say good-bye to Mayor Bill Carpenter. Business owner John Merian, who attended the memorial, says the mayor’s passing has been very surreal.

The day saw a number of elected officials from around the state travel to the city, including Arthur Vigeant, the mayor of Marlboro and President of the Massachusetts Mayors Association and Weymouth Mayor Bob Hedlund.

Members of the state legislature like State Representatives Gerry Cassidy and Claire Cronin, State Senators Mike Brady, Vinny deMacedo and Senate President Karen Spilka also paid a visit along with Lieutenant Governor Karen Polito.

Mayor Carpenter’s funeral service is being held Friday morning in the Brockton High School Auditorium and is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
