Dedham: Former Bridgewater Man Arraigned in Connection to 1996 Quincy Rape

A 61-year-old man has been arraigned on charges connected to a Quincy rape in 1996.

Ivan Keith, formerly of Bridgewater, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Norfolk Superior Court.

He responded not guilty to charges of Aggravated Rape, Kidnapping, Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Larceny.

The case was subject to a John Doe/DNA profile indictment in 2012, according to Norfolk County District Attorney, Michael Morrissey. In addition to the DNA evidence, the victim provided a physical description to Quincy detectives in 1996. That became the basis for the indictment.

Keith fled to Maine in 2003 after failing to appear for a jury trial in Brockton for an Open and Gross Lewdness charge.

After investigation by the Bristol County DA’s office and the State Police, Keith was located and was returned to Massachusetts last month for an arraignment on rape charges from the late 90’s in Taunton District Court. He is also suspected in an unsolved rape case in Plymouth County in 1996.

Keith was held without bail pending a bail hearing set for November 7th.
