An Independent Special Assistant District Attorney has been named to handle the case against two men charged in connection with a deadly fight outside the Nickerson American Legion Post in Quincy.

A Bridgewater father of three, Christopher McCAllum, was killed in January after an altercation at the American Legion Post.

Two men, Matthew and Steven Potter, were arraigned on charges in connection to that fight in Norfolk Superior Court. The two men are the sons of a retired Quincy Police Department Detective.

McCallum was killed after he was punched and fell backwards, hitting his head.

Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey announced that Attorney Daniel Bennett will prosecute the manslaughter and other indictments against Matthew Potter and the assault indictments facing Steven Potter in connection with the January 2019 incident.

Morrissey says that Bennett will have full autonomy in the prosecution of the case. Matthew Potter is facing manslaughter and other charges and Steven Potter facing assault charges in connection with the death of Christopher McCallum.

Bennett previously served as the state Secretary of Public Safety and Security and as First Assistant District Attorney in Worcester County.
