Whitman: Funding for Sewer Main Replacement on Warrant for Special Town Meeting

There are four articles on the warrant for Whitman Special Town Meeting, which takes place Monday night.

Article 4 deals with expenditures to start the replacement of the Sewer Force Main that carries raw sewage from Whitman to the Brockton Treatment Plant.

The article is for $900,000 from Sewer/Water retained earnings to pay for engineering, consulting, and permitting for the eventual replacement.

Of that amount, $121,000 will go towards additional billing for FY16, and $88,000 for FY17.

Town Manager Frank Lynam says the repair is urgently needed. In the past few years, two repairs have been made to the 35-year-old pipe, resulting in costs of $687,000.

The meeting is expected to be about 30 minutes, a quorum of 150 voters is needed.

Whitman’s Special Town Meeting takes place on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall.
