A pre-trial detainee who was held at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been quarantined.
Sheriff Joe McDonald says the person arrived at the facility on April 24th and was housed in a special intake unit as part of the jail’s virus control procedures.
The test results were made known to medical staff on Thursday. The jail has taken steps to identify individuals and staff with whom the detainee may have been in contact with.
Preliminary review shows this test result is not related to a positive case reported by a correctional officer last week.
McDonald says the jail is following DPH and CDC guidelines to reduce the risk and spread of the virus.
