The Kingston Annual Town Meeting, which was scheduled to take place Saturday, has been postponed to July.
In a notice posted on the town’s website, Town Moderator Janet Wallace says the further postponement is due to health concerns over COVID-19.
“I can not in good conscience expose the voters of Kingston to an indoor Town Meeting that has no chance of being completed within one to two hours. As you know I advocated for an outdoor meeting as that would have been a safer meeting location for the numbers of voters that can be expected to attend Town Meeting and would have given latitude for a longer meeting to accomplish the 20 Articles in the Warrant,” said Wallace.
“An outdoor meeting was not accepted by the Board of Selectmen. I understand the rationale regarding heat stroke with regard to a morning meeting and exposure to mosquitos with regard to an evening meeting. If the Warrant could have been reduced to under 10 Articles then an indoor meeting of a one to two hours duration could have been safe.”
Wallace acknowledged that the towns of Duxbury, Halifax, and Pembroke postponed Town Meeting to July.
The Kingston Annual Town Meeting was postponed to Saturday, July 11th at 9 a.m. at the Kingston Intermediate School.
