The 153rd Marshfield Fair has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but organizers are hoping to set up a drive-in theater on the grounds with safety precautions in place.
“We’re trying to put up a drive-in movie for the townspeople so we can give some sort of outlet for them, some place for them to go,” said Lenny Laforest, the President of the Marshfield Agricultural Society. “It seems to be springing up quite a bit across the state as well as the country.”
While the screen has room for 500 cars, they’ll start out with a maximum of 250 to promote social distancing. Sound would be transmitted to FM radios in the cars.
Eugene Dean said to better maintain what comes onto the grounds, no outside food or drinks will be permitted.
“If they’re going to utilize restrooms or the concession stand, they must be masked. All of those areas will have social distancing queuing, as per state regulation,” said Dean. “When they go to watch the movies and they’re at their car, the need to be at their car or in the immediate vicinity.”
The Marshfield Selectmen unanimously approved the plan for the drive-in with an opening date planned for June 18 – Father’s Day weekend.
