The Halifax Fire Department says careless disposal of smoking materials caused a fire at a group home.
Fire Chief Jason Viveiros says they responded to 123 Palmer Mill Road around 11 a.m. yesterday.
The fire was knocked down by an arriving police officer with a fire extinguisher.
He says there were eight residents at the home. The home is habitable, the fire caused some minor structural and smoke damage.
One person was transported the hospital for causes unrelated to the fire.
