West Nile Virus has been detected in East Bridgewater.

The Town’s Board of Health says that they received a notification on Friday that the virus was detected in mosquitoes collected earlier this week.

West Nile Virus is commonly transmitted to humans that were bitten by an infected mosquito.

Health officials say that residents should take extra precautions such as applying insect repellent, wearing proper clothing when outdoors, and possibly consider rescheduling outdoor activities that occur during the evening or early morning.

Residents are also being advised to take steps to mosquito proof their home like drain standing water and install or repair screens.
