A Pembroke man is facing drunk driving charges after police say he passed a school bus and crashed his vehicle.

49-year-old Paul Walsh is facing charges that include OUI Liquor – 4th offense, operating to endanger, operating with open containers of marijuana and alcohol, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.

On Tuesday, police say Officer Karl Gumpright was stopped behind a school bus on Center Street at the intersection of Furnace Colony Drive.

Children were getting off the bus when a Ford Crown Victoria passed it at a high rate of speed.

Officer Gumpright caught up to the vehicle, but Walsh refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued.

Walsh crashed on Monroe Street and struck a fire hydrant. He attempted to flee the scene, but was stopped due to heavy snow.

He was taken into custody without further incident.
