After previous rejections, Marshfield town meeting members approved the MBTA communities multifamily housing zoning bylaw last night Monday night by a vote of 363 to 209.
The bylaw creates the zone along a section of a commercial area of Route 139.
Select board Vice Chair Steve Darcy tells WATD news the town is now in compliance with the state and gives the town control over any possible development.
The town is appealing a court decision to dismiss its lawsuit challenging the MBTA communities act as an unfunded mandate and forces residents to vote in favor of the bylaw.
Town meeting also approved a seven point four million debt exclusion to replace the Martinson School roof. The select board will decide whether to hold a town-wide special election for voters to consider
Town meeting also approved the purchase of 18 acres of land at zero Main Street for two point four million dollars to add to the town’s conservation area. Also, voters gave the thumbs up to a one point one million contract for the firefighters union, and amended several zoning articles.
