Saturday, January 18, 2020:

Got someone in the 4 and under crowd? Head on over to the Hingham Public Library for the Music Makers class with Ms. Bethany today from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. This class offers something for all the little music lovers. Ms. Bethany will introduce songs, dances and movement games that will excite and energize your little one.

 

The Franklin Park Zoo is celebrating the Lunar New Year with the Lunar “Zoo” Year today from 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The Tropical Forest will be decorated festively and in celebration of the year of the rat you’ll learn fun facts about some of the resident rodents during zookeeper chats. Prepare to let your creativity soar at the craft table where you can make your own traditional Chinese lantern. And don’t miss a performance of the lion dance by the Imperial Lion Dance Team at noon. And at 1:00 p.m. attend a performance from the Boston’s Chinese Dulcimer group in the Tropical Forest Hippo Theater. The group performs around the state of Massachusetts at various events playing a range of traditional Chinese pieces to well-known Western pieces. At the time of the Lunar New Year, the group hopes to bring both good music and good luck for the next Lunar year! The Hingham Public Library has a wonderful opportunity for your new(ish) reader to gain comfort and experience reading: it’s their read to a dog program Saturdays from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Designed for kids ages 5 and older you can reserve a 15 minute reading session by calling the Children’s Department: 781.741.1405 x1403. This week you’ll read to Salty, a Chihuahua and his partner Christina. Reading to a trained therapy dog helps develop literacy skills and builds confidence and self-esteem. The library’s canine friends are all wonderful, patient listeners who are looking forward to reading with you!

 

Sunday, January 19, 2020:

Head to the South Shore Natural science Center in Norwell today for a fun and educational program on Rainforest Reptiles! Great for kids ages 3 and older, kiddos will have a chance to meet alligators, turtles, and snakes from the neo-tropical rainforests of the world. You’ll be thrilled and excited by their favorite herpetologist who will give you every fact and dispel your misconceptions about the rainforest and the reptiles that live in them. The Hingham Community Center along with Bare Cove Arts is hosting a Valentine’s Day Card Making Workshop Sunday from 11:00 a.m. – noon and from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Designed for kids K – 5th grade the cost is $25 and kids will learn to make marbled paper with shaving cream and color.
