The James Library & Center for the Arts in Norwell is hosting a Creative Kids Art Series on Saturdays in January for kids ages 8 – 14. Each session is from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and you can register for the entire month for $75 or $20 per class. James Library Art Director Lisa Flynn, along with local award-winner artist Karen Baker will be running the program. Kids will work on their own pieces, creating a book of gelatin prints, collages, and fish print t-shirts. At the end of the series some of the artwork will be displayed at the James! It’s time for Saturday Science at the Hingham Public Library today from 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.! Today’s topic is Astronomy! The goal of the program is to introduce kids to science with an emphasis on women and minority contributors. Kids ages K-3 will be given a brief introduction to the “featured” scientist followed by hands on craft or activity. Featured Scientists today are Caroline Herschel & Mae Jemison who will help you make a bedroom planetarium. Reservations are necessary for materials planning and are class specific. Make music with Ms. Bethany today at the Duxbury Free Library from 10:30 a.m. -11:00 a.m. This program is geared toward kids ages 6 – 36 months and is full of songs, dance and movement games with early childhood educator Bethany Gavin. Try on a pair of snowshoes and make tracks with the Trustees of Reservations today in Canton at the Bradley Estate from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Spend a half hour learning about different styles of snowshoes, and try out a pair! The trustees will set a track through the garden pats overlooking the fields and add some fun for the young ones ages 5 – 10 in hunting for friendly little snowmen along the way. Bring your own snowshoes or borrow them from the Trustees, but sign up early to reserve a pair since they go quickly. For more info email Bradley@thetrustees.org to register for a timeslot. These are ½ hour talks and walks as well as indoor games and hot cocoa will be available for folks waiting their turns. If you have your own snowshoes, discounts on the fee apply.
