The South Shore will be joining the state and nation in observing Veterans Day with ceremonies and parades.
Observances begin Sunday where the towns of Whitman, Abington, Rockland, and Hanson are holding a joint celebration from noon to 3 p.m. at the Whitman VFW on Essex Street. There will be a luncheon and family activities.
On Monday morning, Plymouth North High School will hold a veterans day celebration. It begins with coffee at 8:30. An assembly will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a brunch with students. Those wishing to attend should email jhales@plymouth.k12.ma.us or call 508-830-4400 ext. 1773.
On Veterans Day, Tuesday, several communities are holding observances.
Marshfield will hold its annual parade at 10:30 a.m. It starts at the Ventress Library and proceeds down Ocean Street to the town green in front of town hall for a ceremony. Army veteran Bruce Grout is grand marshall and the Huey Group’s 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War float will be participating.
Plymouth’s celebration is at Memorial Hall at 11 a.m.
In Hingham, a breakfast will be held in town hall at 8:30 a.m. That will be followed by a ceremony at 11 a.m. in the town hall auditorium.
Weymouth’s ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Korean War Memorial in Jackson Square. At 10:15 a.m., the parade steps off in Jackson Square and proceeds to the Ralph Talbot Amphitheater for a ceremony at 11 a.m. The ceremonies include an aerial performance by the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team.
In Scituate, an assembly will be held outside the senior center on First Parish Road at 10:45 a.m. and then move inside for a POW/MIA remembrance.
Cohasset will have a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park at 11 a.m.
Quincy’s parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. from Quincy High School. It proceeds up Russell Park to Hancock Street and ends at the World War II Memorial at Hancock Street and Southern Artery where a ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m.
In Pembroke, a parade gets underway at 10 a.m. at the Old Arrow restaurant , 330 Center Street. It will proceed to the Community Center for a ceremony at 11 a.m.
Brockton’s parade starts at the War Memorial Building at 10 on West Elm Street and proceeds to the City Hall Amphitheater for an 11 a.m. ceremony.
Halifax will hold a ceremony, at 11 a.m .at Town Hall. The Halifax VFW Post 6258, with support from the Department of Veterans Services, will be dedicating a memorial bench on the newly built patio area for Joshua Curtis.
Milton’s observance begins with a parade at 10:45 a.m. from Milton High School to town hall for a ceremony at 11 a.m.
