Braintree residents will now have additional time to pay local taxes due to COVID-19.
Mayor Charles Kokoros says the town is extending the due date for several categories of tax and other town bills in response to the Act to Address Challenges Faced by Municipalities and State Authorities Resulting from COVID-19.
As a result Fourth Quarter Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Bills that were due May 1 are now due June 1.
Motor Vehicle Excise Tax Bills issued with a due date of March 10 or later are now due on June 1 regardless of the due date printed on the bill.
Any Water, Sewer and Stormwater Utility Bills issued with a due date of March 10 or later are now due on June 1 regardless of the due date printed on the bill.
The due date for Property Tax Personal Exemption and Tax Deferral Applications, which was originally April 1, has been extended to June 1.
Mayor Kokoros also says they are waiving interest and other penalties for late payment of any real estate, personal property, motor vehicle excise, water, sewer or stormwater utility bill for an additional month.
That means that Braintree taxpayers have until June 30 to make the payment without incurring interest or other penalties.
Payments made after June 30 will be subject to interest and penalties back to the due date of June 1.
Although town offices are closed other payment methods are available.
