It was a special day at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, as the Brockton Emergency Management Agency organized a parade to salute the staff.
Inside the hospital, staff had another reason to celebrate. Nurse Donna Farquharson says that day, they had 12 negative COVID-19 tests out of 13.
“You can’t beat it,” said Farquharson. “It’s changing, thank God it’s changing.”
She says between the parade and gear donations, the support has been amazing.
“So many people are writing notes and trying to keep our spirits up,” said Farquharson. “It’s hard to dress in a gown, gloves, mask, and shield over and over again. It’s a lot, but today was better.”
Roughly a hundred vehicles drove around the campus with lights and sirens.
Tammy Patton, a Registered Nurse in labor and delivery, gathered with her team along Centre Street and held signs.
“It got me kind of teary-eyed and emotional to see all the people come out to support us, as well as us to support them,” said Patton.
Kim Hollon, the hospital President and CEO, says the event started in Brockton, but it was amazing seeing surrounding towns and cities join in.
“What an incredible shot in the arm for the ego and morale of the staff who have selflessly cared for our patients, and put themselves in harm’s way to take care of the community,” said Hollon. “Seeing the community come out to support them is just absolutely wonderful.”
