Numerous events were scheduled in Cohasset for the Town’s 250th celebration. But due to the COVID-19 outbreak, organizers said they’ll have to change their plans.
Committee Member Glenn Pratt provided the update to the Selectmen via Zoom meeting. The committee reached the consensus that all the events planned should be cancelled.
“It’s a disappointing turn of events. There’s about 150 people working on the committee now, some people have been working on it for four years,” said Pratt. “But we’ve come to the conclusion that what we laid out was just wrong and not doable under the circumstances.”
Pratt, who also serves as the town’s Emergency Management Director, said they’d reimagine the celebration into one big event planned for Thanksgiving weekend.
“You had elaborate plans, you did a tremendous kickoff in January, one that was very memorable,” said Selectmen Chair Kevin McCarthy. “So much has been put into this. I have to say this is one of the big disappointments of the current crisis we’re in. From my point of view, you’re making the right decision though.”
A parade, harbor festival, and historic tours were planned for this summer.
Due to the health emergency, the Selectmen voted unanimously to cancel all public and permitted events through July 4.
