Press Release from Town Manager Rene Read:
“Due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, Duxbury Beach, all beach-related parking areas and vehicular and pedestrian access to the Powder Point Bridge are closed to the public effective immediately, until further notice.
Further, the sale of beach stickers has been suspended until further notice and any stickers that may have been purchased have not been charged to the purchasers account.
Considerable thought has gone into arriving at this determination and by closing the beach, the Town of Duxbury is taking a proactive step in helping reduce the spread of this virus. We are all aware that there is a significantly increased risk to the health and safety of others when large groups gather and the Town has no means of controlling the social distancing behaviors of beach patrons once they arrive.
The closure Duxbury Beach is not the preferred option but it is absolutely necessary since protecting public health is paramount which means adhering to social distancing and restricting access to public places where groups might gather. Closing Duxbury Beach will put pressure on Duxbury’s other outdoor areas such as recreational fields and numerous walking trails which still remain open at this point, it is absolutely critical that visitors to these areas that common sense be used and to PLEASE TAKE THIS HEALTH PANDEMIC SERIOUSLY.”
