Officials in Duxbury are discussing this year’s season at Duxbury Beach and whether or not it will open at all.
Duxbury Beach has endured some rough times over the past year.
Last year large sections of the beach closed for over 30 days through the July 4th holiday due to the piping plovers nesting.
Now with the Covid-19 virus and the plovers that arrive right around this time and start nesting by the end of April, Duxbury officials are scratching their heads because it’s uncertain when the situation will finally clear.
Town Manager Rene Read says beach sticker sales help pay to run the beach but at the moment no stickers are being sold until the town knows if and when the beach will re-open.
Read says people may be hesitant to purchase beach stickers due to limitations last year because of the plovers and now with the coronavirus keeping it closed sticker sales may be hit hard.
The current cost for a oversand drive on sticker for Duxbury residents is $190 per season and $330 for non residents.
