Massachusetts passes grim milestone of 1,000 virus deaths

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts has reached a grim milestone, with more than 1,000 deaths from the coronavirus. The state Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 1,108 people have died,  including 151 who died in the past 24 hours. The state’s first COVID-19 death was reported March 20. Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders said Wednesday that the state will begin making public the number of positive cases by city and town and reporting cases by race and ethnicity. Gov. Charlie Baker says Massachusetts is getting about a million pieces of personal protective equipment from the federal government.
