The Plymouth School Committee cancels April vacation, the school year to end June 19th.
In Plymouth, Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Human Resources, Patricia Fry, told Moderator Steven Triffletti, during his Covid-19 update, (broadcast on PACTV) that it’s a new learning curve for everyone involved in educating remotely the towns over 7,500 school children. Entering the fifth week of school closure, Assistant Superintendent Fry says everyone has been working very hard to get the website up and running…
“…and the way that works is each week our teachers upload a template of information and activities and assignments. In the words of students: it counts now. So, the kids are really buying in.
And, Fry says, a number of administrators, from assistant principals to guidance counselors are reaching out to families who may not be connected…
“accessibility and communication is what we really are hoping for with our families because there are so many dynamics: you need to have wireless, you need to have a device. We’ve been fortunate that we’ve given out over 600 Chromebooks to families, and our principals have worked diligently with our technology staff to make themselves accessible and they’re meeting people all over town to make that happen—with social distancing.”
The School Committee voted to continue working throughout April vacation, teachers agreed, so the remote learning continues its momentum. The last day of school for Plymouth was originally June 25th, now it is June 19th.
