A 43-year-old Rockland man was MedFlighted to a Boston hospital after he was struck by a vehicle near Market and Howard Street in Rockland on Saturday.
Rockland Police Lieutenant Nicholas Zeoli says this is being investigated as a hit-and-run crash, the suspect vehicle was described as a pickup truck last seen heading west on Market Street (Route 139). On Sunday, Police Chief John Llewellyn said that the victim is in stable condition and is expected to survive. Police are currently processing a vehicle for evidence.
Lieutenant David Cowing of the Rockland Fire Department says they responded to the scene around 10:40 p.m. Saturday. A police officer driving on Market Street found the 43-year-old man.
Cowing says the Fire Department was on scene in about two minutes.
“It was Rockland fire units, ambulance and engine,” said Cowing. “We arrived on scene, determined the patient had life-threatening injuries; multi-system trauma; and we notified MedFlight.”
A landing zone was set up at the Spring Street ball fields, and the person was transported with four fire department members on board.
“They gave us a 10-minute ETA, we met them here,” said Cowing. “By the time we had the patient stabilized, MedFlight arrived.”
The man was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Rockland Police are investigating the crash with assistance from the State Police Crash Reconstruction Team.
