33 new COVID-19 deaths reported; Baker cautious on reopening
BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts reported the fewest new COVID-19-related deaths in more than a month Tuesday. There were 33 deaths, bringing to 5,141 the total number of deaths recorded since the pandemic’s start. Gov. Charlie Baker said he’ll have more to say Monday about lifting the state’s stay-at-home advisory that has been in place since March 23. Organizers of a Memorial Day flag garden on Boston Common to honor the 37,000 military members from Massachusetts who have died in service of the country dating to the Revolutionary War have canceled this year’s display. Massachusetts hospitals are taking a financial hit during the pandemic.
