Ferry service to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard will continue following the receipt of Federal Funds.
Congressman Bill Keating’s office says they were able to secure $12 million for the Steamship Authority which was made available to them Tuesday night.
The $12 million includes $9.8 million in CARES Act funding and the annual allocation of $2.45 million from the Federal Transit Administration.
The FTA had previously announced that they intended to decertify the Steamship Authority as a commuter service.
However, Keating says he was able to provide them with new evidence of the commuter traffic on the island ferries and maintain its commuter service status, making it eligible for the CARES Act stimulus funding.
