Virus news: Mask Use Mandatory, COVID-19 Deaths Top 4,400

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts residents are now required to wear masks in public to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. An order signed by Gov. Charlie Baker last week took effect Wednesday mandating the use of facial coverings when social distancing isn’t possible. Massachusetts reported another 208 confirmed COVID-19-related deaths Wednesday, bringing to 4,420 the number of deaths recorded in the state since the pandemic’s start. Voters would have more options to cast ballots under a proposal by Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin. Under the plan, votes could be cast by mail in the Sept. 1 primary and Nov. 3 election. Massachusetts dairy farmers are giving away 8,600 gallons of milk Thursday to people struggling because of the coronavirus pandemic. Demand for milk has dropped steeply because schools and restaurants have closed during the crisis.
