The Corona Virus has been especially deadly in nursing homes and other types of long-term care facilities—accounting, in some communities for the largest percentage of COVID-19 deaths.
Senior Living Consultant Robert Eisenstein, telling Moderator Steven Triffletti, during his PACTV broadcast…that there’s a lot of discussion about the testing that’s been going on in nursing homes. According to Eisentein that includes not only nursing homes…
“…it includes things like rest homes, independent living, assisted living, group homes—there’s a total of 680 facilities across the state. And the effort, thanks to the Governor’s office on down to the Department of Public Health and to the National Guard as well, we’ve tested 604 facilities—over 35,000 residents, that’s an amazing number.”
The flip side of that is…
“The more testing you do the more positive cases you’re going to uncover, and so what’s happened now in nursing homes—on average, I think there’s a positive case in just about every nursing home in the state. What happens is, they’re going to get anywhere from 20, as high as in some cases, as high as 50% of their population will come back a positive Covid-19 test.”
The Department of Public Health, as of April 30th, put into place, what is called the Covid 28 point questionnaire:
“Every administrator and every nursing home has to send in a self-assessment, summarizing the number of positives in their building, and they have to fill out the competency check list so that we can determine what nursing homes might need help in sort of upping their game in dealing with the Corona Virus.”
