Being stuck at home during the quarantine has been tough for everyone, especially for those who have a regular work out schedule.
Gyms and fitness centers have been closed for weeks, adding inches to waistlines, and leaving many frustrated they are not able to work out.
South Shore personal trainer Debbie Russell gives advice on what people can do at home without equipment:
“There are lots of body weight exercises you can do. I have gotten very creative, I’ve come up with exercises you can do using a chair or ottoman. Pick those exercises and repeat them 4 to 5 times,” said Russell. “As a personal trainer, I come up with my own personal workout daily. I have clients using sand bags, a gallon of water and a mat and you. You can get a good work out in.”
Russell also suggests you watch what you’re eating, and that boredom can lead to overeating.
“People are thinking they can eat whatever they want because they are in a comfort zone. When this is over, you are not going to like how you feel if you’ve not been eating healthy. You need to start now, eating vegetables, fruits and protein,” Russel said. “When I eat unhealthy foods I know how it makes me feel physically and mentally. When you eat healthy you feel healthy.”
Russell also suggests a brisk walk daily to get your heart rate up, and if you have stairs in your home it’s a good way to get a quick cardiovascular workout.
