An overnight fire causes extensive damage to a Weymouth home.
Fire Chief Keith Stark says that at midnight on Sunday they received a 911 call regarding a fire at 75 Spring St.
Crews arrived on scene to find smoke and fire visible from the front left corner outside the home.
It was also discovered that there was fire inside on the first floor as well.
They were able to make entry and quickly knock down the fire and then proceeded to open void spaces to ensure there was no extension to the second floor and attic.
Firefighters later determined that the home was vacant and being renovated.
The fire remained at a single alarm with mutual aid being provided by Quincy, Braintree, and Hingham.
No injuries were reported fire had burned through the first floor and damaged the basement with damage estimated to be $75,000.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental ignition caused by spontaneous combustion of oily rags.
