Dozens of people stood in support of Black Lives Matter along Five Corners in Braintree.

Caren O’Connell of Braintree held a sign in support with her 10-year-old daughter, Georgia.

“It’s very sad to see that Black lives aren’t treated with the kind of respect that White lives are treated with,” said Caren. “I don’t understand it. I think it’s important for everyone to be really vocal about changing that.”

“I really don’t know why this happening,” said Georgia. “I really don’t want it to be happening. It feels good knowing that I’m helping change that.”

Donavon Broussard, 21, recently moved to the area from Delaware. He says it’s beautiful seeing people come together for a cause.

“It’s a way of reassuring those people that their lives really do matter,” said Broussard. “Look at all these people out here trying to make an impact, and a change to our society’s current structure.”

He was joined by 22-year-old Ren Dinnigan from Salem, New Hampshire, who says it’s important to show support wherever possible.

“It’s important that a community policies itself and it doesn’t have a bunch of rich white cops who have no idea what’s going on that neighborhood, just coming over and oppressing them, killing them, assuming the worst of a not-so-bad situation, and it ends with a young Black person dead,” said Dinnigan. “That’s just inappropriate, and it’s wrong.”

The standout takes place each Friday, starting at 3:30 p.m.
