Two new members were elected to the Hanover Board of Selectmen in the Annual Town Election.
Rhonda Nyman received the most votes in the race with 1,120. Nyman said she wanted to bring her experience as a businesswoman and former legislator to the Board.
“It’s a very difficult time to be elected with the coronavirus,” said Nyman. “But certainly, I’m going to reach out to all of my county, state, and federal colleagues and work with those folks to help move Hanover forward.”
Vanessa O’Connor was elected to the second seat with 969 votes. She announced her campaign in January, but wanted to keep running with the need for help due to COVID-19.
“I really think there needed to be a younger and more diverse voice on the Board,” said O’Connor. “I don’t know that there’s ever been a Black Selectman in Hanover before, and I think I’m probably the youngest one in a while. I really think that we need a voice for younger families in town, and just for people who haven’t always been in Hanover, but chose to call it their home.”
Steven Louko, Jr. had 786 votes, Melsi Xhengo had 514 votes, and Viola Ryerson had 492 votes.
For School Committee; Ruth Lynch had 1,315 votes, Peter Miraglia had 1,225 votes. There were 699 write-in votes in that race.
