In Hanson, three candidates challenged for two Selectmen seats and a ballot question was decided at Annual Town Election.
With unofficial results, Laura Fitzgerald-Kemmett won re-election to the Board of Selectmen with 1,254 votes.
“It really means a lot, because this year in particular was just unbelievable,” said Fitzgerald-Kemmett. “We started off with my term as Chair with an issue with our Town Administrator, we had to get that replaced. Then we had COVID. It’s been quite a rollercoaster here, on top of the whole school assessment. So, to think that people still have confidence and support me, really feels good. It’s been a hard job, but it’s one I love doing.”
Jim Hickey won re-election for the other seat with 1,120 votes.
“This Board has been together for a while and I think the citizens of Hanson, by putting Laura and I back in, like the way the Board is made up,” said Hickey. “We’re not just going to roll over on any issue.”
Paul Benenato had 763 votes in the Selectmen race.
The override ballot question for $800,000 failed. There were 749 “yes” votes and 1,114 “no” votes.
Patricia O’Kane was written-in for Assessor with 24 votes, Hillary Kniffen was written-in for the Whitman-Hanson Regional School Committee with 428 votes, and Richard Duhaine was written-in for Cemetery Commissioner with five votes. Kenny Tasny had four votes for that position.
Sean Kealy was re-elected as Moderator, Kevin Perkins was elected to the Board of Health, John Kemmett was re-elected to the Planning Board, Kevin Cohen was elected to the Planning Board, Marilyn Cardile was re-elected to the Housing Authority.
John Papp and Teresa Santalucia were elected as Library Trustees, and Michael Chernicki was re-elected as Water Commissioner.
