Amid tears and laughter, visits resume in nursing homes.
BOSTON (AP) — In-person visits to nursing homes are resuming in Massachusetts and other states with masks, social distancing and plenty of tears and laughter. Visits came to a virtual standstill in mid-March to shield older Americans with underlying health conditions, the most vulnerable to the coronavirus. But on Wednesday, visits resumed in Massachusetts for the first time since the pandemic began. Among the first to take advantage was Marcie Abramson, whose 89-year-old mother, Cynthia Abramson, has been in a care facility for months. The two sat masked and apart on the nursing home patio and exchanged “air hugs” as they choked back tears.
