MA: Name of Republican Challenger to Congressman Bill Keating Will Not Appear on the Ballot

A Republican challenger to Congressman Bill Keating will not have her name on the ballot for the Ninth Congressional District Seat.

The State Ballot Law Commission issued a ruling on Friday stating that Keating’s Republican Challenger Helen Brady’s name will not appear on the ballot.

The commission says they received a challenge on June 5 stating that the electronic signatures were collected improperly.

It was determined by the commission that the papers submitted for certification weren’t the “native” nomination papers “signed in person and in real time by the voter.”

As a result the commission has ordered Secretary of State Bill Galvin “not to print the name of Helen Brady on the Republican Primary ballot for the office of Representative in Congress in the Ninth Congressional District.”

Brady issued a statement on her Facebook page decrying the decision.

“The Secretary of States Elections Commission decided that the software used by 39 other candidates was perfectly acceptable but when I passed in my CERTIFIED Signatures (well after the other 39 candidates submitted theirs)using the SAME EXACT software MINE were no good”

She went on to call the decision voter censorship and asked her supporters to file a complaint with Galvin’s office.

“Voter censorship and suppression is what this ruling boils down to. Please call 617-727-2828 if you want to register your complaint with SS Bill Galvin about his Commission of three and their decision to ignore my right to be on the ballot per the SJC ruling–unbelievable but then again ONE party rule not exactly what the founding fathers had in mind.”

Galvin’s office offered no comment saying the Commission is an independent commission.
