In Plymouth, the Board of Health takes up the matter of social distancing on the town’s beaches.
Board Chairman Birgitta Kuehn calling attention to signs posted on the beaches that remind beach goers of Covid-19 related safety guidelines.
Chairman Kuehn talked about the safety guidelines clearly stated on the big red signs posted at the beaches:
“It’s asking you that no more than 10 people gather in a group, and that those groups then maintain 12 ft. between another group. And, no alcohol is allowed, no organized games are allowed.”
Kuehn told the group about what some municipal governments have done to provide a visual example of advisable social distancing on the beach:
“On the beaches in California and Florida the Departments of Public Works have come out and marked out on the beach what 10 people staying 6 feet apart would look like. They’ve either put a plastic ring around it or they’ve spaced it out—and then they’ve put a second one next to it that’s 12 ft away, and then a third one. What that does is it gives people a visual.”
The Board agreed that most people can relate to a visual more readily than something stated on a sign. They voted in favor of having Public Health Director Karen Keane pursue such a request with the Department of Public Works.
