In Plymouth, Michelle Bratti, the town’s Director of Elder Affairs warning that criminals are getting creative with Coronavirus fraud, this during Moderator Steven Triffletti’s COVID-19 forum on PACTV.
Director Bratti says she’s concerned about everyone, but seniors in particular because criminals are looking to take advantage of people’s fears regarding the Coronavirus:
“Criminals are getting busy and creative with Coronavirus fraud, and they’re looking to prey on people’s fears and anxieties regarding the virus. They’re stealing unemployment and stimulus checks, offering safe cures for the virus, with charity websites and false loans, as well as filing fake unemployment claims on behalf of real people. These criminals are sending very official looking notices or making official sounding phone calls for your personal information.”
And, Bratti says if anyone tries to call you or sends information through the mail.
“Please do not provide this personal information. Call your local authorities if you have any questions or, if someone is pressuring you to take immediate action, chances are if it feels stressful to you, or leaves you feeling unsure, it is a scam.”
