A man accused of killing a Chihuahua will continue to be held without bail after a hearing deciding his release is rescheduled.
19-year-old Skykeim Basden has been in custody of the Norfolk County Correction Department after an event on May 25th where he allegedly stomped the family dog, a Chihuahua named Coco, to death.
Reports from family members quickly led Weymouth Police to find the deceased dog, which Basden allegedly tried to hide behind Whitman’s Pond, as well as Basden himself who was placed under arrest hours after the incident.
Basden was deemed dangerous during his hearing on June 1st, but was due in Quincy District court on Tuesday to see if a judge would release him under court-ordered conditions.
However during the hearing, Attorney Tim Birmingham asked the Judge for more time to gather documents and medical records since he took over the case after the original attorney withdrew.
Judge Mark Coven allowed the request and rescheduled Basden’s hearing for June 23rd.
Basdens charged with cruelty to animals, malicious killing of a domestic animal, threats to commit a crime and vandalism to property.
