The Hingham Board of Selectmen will have a decision in the next couple of days on how to proceed with the now controversial blue thin line flag that has been hanging on town fire trucks.
WATDs David Cedrone has the story:
Last week the Hingham Board of Selectmen received an email from a town resident stating the thin blue line flag now has a different political meaning and should be removed from town property in accordance with town policy.
The Hingham Fire Department has not removed the thin blue line flag and stated it would not be removed by anyone in their union, it has been on the trucks since the murder of Weymouth Police Officer Michael Chesney two years ago.
The board of selectmen held a virtual public forum this week with nearly 100 people on the call, all callers supported the removal of the flags.
Hingham Selectmen Joe Fischer read a statement, calling people who have been threatening the man that sent the initial email hypocrites.
Hingham resident Andrew Turner spoke to the board and says the blue line flag has become a symbol of hate.
The board of selectmen says they will make a decision within the next couple of days after drafting a new flag policy in town and having diplomatic talks with the fire department.
