The State Police are investigating after a fatal crash on Route 3 North in Pembroke.
Around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, the State Police responded to Exit 12 for reports of a four-vehicle crash. On arrival, State Police say they found an 87-year-old passenger from Quincy suffering serious injuries.
Troopers performed CPR before the woman was transported to the hospital, but State Police say she died from her injuries.
The operator of the 2017 Volkswagen SUV suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
Pembroke Fire Chief Ken McCormick says a total of four people were injured. The towns of Marshfield, Duxbury, and Hanover provided mutual aid ambulances to the scene
State Police say none of the other injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
The Northbound side of the highway was closed for an extended period of time while investigation and crash reconstruction took place. After two hours, the State Police opened the right travel lane and breakdown lane to traffic.
Unrelated to the incident, MassDOT dispatched a work crew to repair a pothole north of the scene.
State Police say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
