In Plymouth, drunkenness, illegal parking, public urination, verbal abuse and worse, have been the norm at White Horse Beach causing the Select Board to authorize extra police patrols which began last weekend. The Board of Health at their meeting this week heard a report about the result of the increased police presence.
Board of Health Chair Barry Potvin comments about the signs posted at the beach at two locations…
“…stating that by order of town officials White Horse Beach was for Plymouth residents only and citing the three hundred dollar fine, which they might be subjected to also.”
Selectman Betty Cavacco, also present at the meeting added to the report:
“I have to say that the Police Department did a phenomenal job over the weekend—they really stepped it up. You know, the things that happened here—it’s not that they never happened here—but they’ve never happened here like this.”
Public Health Director Karen Keane has the specific numbers:
“There were three arrests, very few bylaw violations were given, again mostly given for public consumption of alcohol, but fifty parking tickets were given and twelve vehicles were towed. Working together with our Police Department, making sure these things are followed—that will hopefully work with less people coming to the beach, we can then have the social distancing that is so important during COVID-19.”
The Board of Health meets next on July 29th at 4PM.
